The 1st Day of School

School Hours:  8:45am – 3:45pm

During nice weather, students can congregate before school on the playground, where parents and school personnel monitor children.  Teachers will greet the students when the bell rings.  At that time, students form a line at their class’s designated spot.

During inclement weather, students can congregate in the cafeteria before school to wait for their teachers.

Before and After School Options:

Prescott offers several for-fee after-school programs.  More details will be confirmed in the first few weeks of school.

Right at School – before / after school and enrichment programming

School Dress Uniform:

For the 2014-2015 school year, the school uniform consists of a pre-printed "polo"-type shirt with the Prescott logo.  Available colors are red, gold, white and grey.  Bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts, dresses) are navy blue.  School shirts can be ordered through the PTA.  Ordering instructions are available on the Dress Code page on this site..  The choice of shoes is at the discretion of the student.

School Calendar:

All CPS schools now fall into the Track R schedule.  The first day of school is on Tuesday, Sept 8nd 2015.

 UFO Days (Uniform Free Option):

Once or twice a month, Prescott offers a Uniform Free Option to the students as a way to raise money for both Prescott Parents and PTA.  With the purchase of a $1 wrist band, students are exempt from wearing their school uniform on an appointed day.

Local School Council (LSC):

Most schools in Chicago are partially governed by LSCs as per state law. The main responsibilities of the LSC are to hire the principal; evaluate annually her or his performance; and to approve the biennial SIPAAA (School Improvement Plan for Advancing Academic Achievement).  The LSC is an elected body, comprised of 11 representatives of 6 parents, 2 teachers, 2 community representatives, and the principal.  The LSC typically meets throughout the school year.  Representatives for the 2012 school year are:

Parent Representatives: Jennifer Lister, Lisa St. Marie, Victor Canto, Eric Marcus, Paul Carey, Amanda Morocho

Teacher Representatives:  Jennifer Phares, Amanda Kirshner,

Community Representatives: MJ Arons, Daniel Korso

Student lunch in the cafeteria:

Classrooms rotate in the Student Cafeteria between 11:00am – 1pm. Students will spend about 25 minutes at recess followed by about 20 minutes for lunch.  Outdoor recess is weather permitting (rain, snow, or weather colder than 32 degrees).  Parents should make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather. Students are monitored in the cafeteria by a combination of parents, staff, and teachers.

Parent Leadership:

Prescott is fortunate to have two strong parent groups supporting the efforts of the school.  Prescott Parents (www.prescottparents.com) works closely with the school on fundraising and marketing initiatives while the PTA (www.prescottpta.org) focuses on strengthening the home/school connection.  Both groups focus on building a parent volunteer network to help with Family Nights, Scholastic Books Fairs, Teacher Appreciation Days, and other school related events.  Please email both groups to sign up for regular updates – prescottparents@yahoo.com and prescottpta@yahoo.com .

Tardy/Absent Policy:

When students are late for school, they must go directly to the school office and pick up a tardy slip before heading to class.  All students that are absent from school must return to school with a note explaining their absence.  When students are absent from school, parents will receive a call from the school confirming their absence.  Students are expected to be in school as per state law.
