Join Prescott Artists for an Inaugural Art Ball

posted Jan 19, 2017, 1:26 PM by Jennifer Lister   [ updated Jan 19, 2017, 1:26 PM ]

Inauguration Day: Friday, January 20th  5:30-7:00 PM
at Prescott School

The art show is a culmination of social studies lessons and art lessons focused on the 2016 presidential election.  Students studied the constitution and followed the election process in class with Mrs. Edwards.  They chose election issues they feel most strongly about to inspire art pieces including over 50 unique collages, paintings and sculptures.  The topics they chose include climate change, education funding, gender and racial equality, gun violence and immigration.

Fifth grade students will be taking part in a performance art piece!  They will be creating abstract and expressionistic paintings to illustrate the following prompt:  If you could speak at the inauguration, what would you tell our new president?  The project is designed to make students think about what it feels like to use art as their voice.  They will hold their own work at various spots around the exhibit, and they will have their mouths taped shut for a dramatic effect.  Visitors can try to interpret their work and then read about what they were trying to visually express!  It has been fun to work with them on this because they are so used to representational work.  Abstract work is a real challenge for them!

The 6-8th grade students will be dressing to impress, and will be eager to chat with you about their work.  Light refreshments will be served, and we will have a live band performing!  Join us or volunteer if you can!

How can you help us?

Join us for Taste of Prescott, February 24th

Dear Prescott Community,

As we approach the holiday celebrating the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., it seems like a perfect moment to share an update about OUR special upcoming celebration of culture and diversity!

Whilst originally scheduled for this Friday, we learned at a later time that our event clashed with the Art Ball, hence the date change far in advance to hopefully include as many Prescott families as possible.

If you are reading about our family-led event for the first time, we are delighted to extend a warm welcome to you and your children for our second annual FREE “Taste of Prescott” which will now take place on Friday February 24th from 6-9pm.

This fun-filled and unique Prescott community celebration will be held in a beautiful donated art gallery location, courtesy of the Chicago Art Department at 1932 South Halsted, Suite 100 in Pilsen. This exciting event gives us an opportunity as Prescott families, teachers, faculty and staff to get connected and enjoy some diverse food samples, international sounds and multi-cultural children’s art projects, tattoos, face-painting and more!

Our culture specific food tables last year were BEYOND IMPRESSIVE! It was a true culinary showcase of incredible Prescott talent. We will gladly welcome any and all food items from empanadas to matzo balls!

We will also host a small bar with beverages for all. Volunteer/ food sign-up /RSVP slips will follow soon.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to get involved in the planning, set-up or assist during our unique event. Much of the preparation and organization will be done via e-mail/ text to minimize the time intrusion factor. We will host a brief information meeting with translators available. Please feel free to stop by, even if it just for a few minutes if you wish to share an idea or offer a little help.

Friday 27th January, 8:50-9:45am -Information / Planning Meeting at Prescott in MPR /Cafeteria area.

Please also kindly remember that in addition to our FREE Taste of Prescott gathering, we also have our crucially important Prescott Fundraiser that sincerely needs ALL of our support.

Even if you cannot attend the event at WhirlyBall on Saturday March 11th, 2017 from 7pm-11pm, you can still donate or pledge assistance in many different ways.

Our highly dedicated Fundraiser Pack Leaders will be glad to hear from you! Please click on the link for more details about the event and learn ways to show your love for Prescott.

PAMPERED CHEF IS BACK!

Help us support Prescott, our teachers and our students by attending our Pampered Chef pop-up fundraiser on Friday, October 28th.  This is historically our most successful pop-up event as 20% of all sales goes straight back to Prescott.   All funds raised will be used to support new programming as well as various middle school needs.

Our host Laura will demo new Pampered Chef products as she slices, dices, sautes, bakes and prepares hearty fall recipes!

https://pamperedchef.com/go/prescott

For those of you that like to cook or simply want learn, Pampered Chef products are the best!  I still use the products I bought from our very first show years ago!  As I look around my kitchen, I see a wine opener (of course!), a cutting board, the “chopper”, various spatulas, aluminum stacking bowls, measuring cups and cookie cutters!

What better time to stock up on cooking gadgets than just before the holidays!

Please check out the link above and join us for a glass of wine, good food and great company!   Amy (mom to Charlie, 4th grade and Xander, PreK) has graciously offered to hold the party at her house which is only a few blocks from Prescott.

Happy Cooking!
